Afghan & Ukrainian Newcomer Support Programs – IRC Sacramento

ANSP and UNSP: Culturally grounded case management and emotional well-being services for newly arrived families.

Best for:

Service Providers

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Sacramento offers two newcomer support programs designed to help Afghan and Ukrainian families navigate life in the United States. The Afghan Newcomer Support Program (ANSP) provides up to one year of culturally responsive case management, connecting eligible Afghan individuals and families to benefits enrollment, housing navigation, school enrollment, health screenings, primary care, vaccinations, and other essential services. Clients also receive referrals to ESL classes, employment and economic empowerment programs, youth services, and community wellness activities, along with Cultural Orientation on topics such as transportation, banking, and U.S. systems.

Under the UNSP program, IRC provides non-clinical mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) for Ukrainian adults, youth, and caregivers. Services include wellness groups for high school students, “Pathway to Wellness” sessions for women, and trauma-informed support groups for parents and caregivers. These groups focus on identity, stress management, healthy relationships, educational and career goals, and cultural adjustment—strengthening resilience and supporting successful integration without clinical intervention.
